With Promised Land Recordings release ‘Mr Sandman’, Oppidan has achieved a somewhat unprecedented feat in simultaneously hitting the #1 spot on the two leading download platforms.
At a time when we pay too much mind to metrics & streaming figures, it’s arguably never been more difficult to actually sell music. Therefore it’s a real testament to the abilities of any artist when they’re able to rack up paid downloads to any degree.
In recent times, UK Garage appears to have fractured a bit - at least in terms of its artistic direction: with some favouring festival-friendly wonky 4x4 vibes, others jumping on the Speed Garage bandwagon & a (generally older) demographic of producers favouring the Garage House sound. It’s fair to say that each download store tends to - perhaps inadvertently - cater specifically to a certain niche… & that’s why it’s so impressive that a young producer from UKG’s new wave is able to bag that coveted top spot on Beatport AND Juno Download.
It goes to show what we here at NUKG 24/7 have always known -Â that Oppidan is a special talent, rightly placed at the very top of the NUKG heap.
