New music from legendary Duncan Powell

Updated: Jun 7

As long-time fans of UK Garage and in particular its Lost Years ('03-'08), it's been a pleasure to see Duncan Powell return in recent times and resume the high workrate for which he's known. As one of Garage's more mature bretheren and a family man no-less, we do wonder where he finds the time to piece these gems together. Needless to say, we're grateful he does... and long may it continue!

His latest 3-track release caught our eye (or perhaps more appropriately, our ear!), and it seemed only right to flag it here with a brief write-up.

'This Isn't Right' kicks things off with that usual Duncan shuffle, snappy beat skipping along nicely and making way for syncopated stabs and vocal cuts. 'Garden Groove' is on a more chilled tip, but is underlaid with a serious sine bass and features a snare that sounds about ready to take your head off! We particularly enjoyed the Todd Edwards style breakdown @ 3'08" and seamless transition into classic 4x4 territory.

Interestingly, the release is finished off with a remix of 'This Isn't Right' created under Duncan's 'Cheat Code' alias (used for tracks which have been crafted utilising AI assistance). We noted whilst on his Bandcamp a freebie by the name of 'Little Flowers' - which he has also released as Cheat Code, along with a write-up briefly outlining the process he followed for creating the track. The very topic of AI music creation would require an altogether separate blog post, needless to say both Cheat Code tracks are well worth a listen!

Head over to Duncan Powell's Bandcamp page now, and give your ears a treat.
